Timberwolves’ Chris Finch identifies ‘biggest’ issue in Game 2 vs. Spurs
After stealing Game 1 of their semifinal matchup against the San Antonio Spurs, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ confidence was through the roof — especially with Anthony Edwards back healthy. However, the Timberwolves got humbled really quickly on Wednesday night in Game 2. That game was essentially over after three quarters, as the Timberwolves fell down by a huge margin on their way to a 133-95 defeat.
It did not help matters whatsoever that the Timberwolves were bricking from everywhere, even from the charity stripe. Their shooting splits on the night were at 40/30/52 — with their misses from the foul line being especially devastating. And after the game, head coach Chris Finch got brutally honest regarding his team’s struggles and how they were aimless on the offensive end for most of the night.
“We gotta go somewhere. We are kind of dribbling and going nowhere. We’ve got to be able to punch gaps, play downhill, that’s what we like to do. That’s when we’re at our best,” Finch said in his postgame presser, via Anthony Slater of ESPN.

The Spurs defense deserves so much credit for flustering the Timberwolves offense all night long. The Timberwolves turned the ball over 22 times, and with Victor Wembanyama patrolling the paint, Minnesota could not utilize its typical inside-out style of offense to its fullest capacity.
Minnesota ended up taking so many tough shots on the night, and against a lively Spurs team, that is a recipe for disaster. With the Spurs’ offense being on point for most of the night (50/41/82 shooting splits), the Timberwolves, more often than not, faced a set defense, which they struggled to score against.
It did not help matters whatsoever that Ayo Dosunmu had to exit the game after re-aggravating his injury, which prevented the Timberwolves from playing with pace. Edwards is clearly not yet at his best, scoring just 12 points on 5-13 shooting in 24 minutes off the bench, and Minnesota simply did not have enough to keep in step with San Antonio in Game 2.
