Tigers Woods fights back in battle for prescription drug records

After prosecutors requested golf icon Tiger Woods’ prescription drug records following his car crash and subsequent DUI arrest, his attorney has responded.

Woods’ attorney is fighting the attempts to subpoena his prescription drug records, according to new court records filed on Wednesday, Apr. 15, 2026 (via ESPN).

“This right is admittedly not absolute should the State show the relevance of the records to its criminal investigation and thus warrant intrusion into Mr. Woods’ privacy,” Duncan wrote.

The request was for the number of Woods’ prescriptions that were filled from Jan. 1, 2026, to Mar. 27, 2026. They also wanted “the number of pills, the dosage amounts and any instructions that accompanied the pills, including warnings about driving while taking them, according to the motion for a subpoena.”

Before turning any records in, Woods’ attorney is requesting that the court first decide if they are “relevant to a criminal investigation.” If they decide to grant the state’s request for a subpoena, Woods’ attorney is asking for the judge to enter a protective order. This would “ensure Woods’ prescription records only be viewed by the State, its law enforcement officers, any State experts, and the Defense.”

“The records shall not be disclosed to any third parties, including Order prohibiting dissemination of the records by the State in response to any public records request,” Duncan said. “If and when it becomes necessary for the State to publicly disclose said records or any portion of said records, that a hearing must be held to determine the necessity of said disclosure.”

Woods was arrested on Mar. 27, 2026, in Juniper, Florida, following a rollover crash. When law enforcement arrived on the scene, they found two pills in his pocket, which were later identified as hydrocodone.

He complied and took a breathalyzer test. However, Woods refused a urine test. He then spent several hours in jail before being released on bond. Woods has since pleaded not guilty to the charges. He has been ordered to appear in court in May 2025.
