Thursday horse racing tips: Royal Ascot best bets from tipster Tom Lunn

Thursday horse racing tips

Royal Ascot

• 14.30: Sea Venture 9/1 & Revels 11/1 each-way (1pt each)
• 15.05: Joulany 14/1 & Cannes 6/1 each-way (1pt each)
• 15.40: Earth Shot 5/1 each-way (1pt)
• 16.15: Trawlerman 3/1 (1pt)

Sea Venture & Revels

We start with the Chesham Stakes here a race that Aidan O’Brien has won three times in the last six runnings.

The master trainer has been in solid form this year and this could also be his sixth win in 11 of the Chesham.

Given his form so far at Royal Ascot and the superiority of two-year-olds, Aix La Chapelle fits the bill in so many aspects.

But this horse drifted consistently, from near enough evens out to 13/8 on Wednesday to 9/4 this morning.

Nola Soul appeals a lot, his form has worked out well, after beating King Of Cloughan in May, that horse went on to win the Windsor Castle Stakes in the last race of the day yesterday over 6f.

Third at Leopardstown was Florida Bay who also went on to win next time out.

However, Revels form is looking promising given he beat Sword Salute on debut comfortably and that horse is here today after winning at Lingfield on his next appearance so is a solid each-way price.

Sea Venture is also a great bet given the way she finished her race to win comfortably at Haydock, she’s bred to go 7f and 1m so the step up in trip won’t be an issue if anything should be an advantage given her full sisters forms.

Joulany & Cannes

The King George V Stakes primarily sees horses that have not won last time out, there’s potential here for a few to really show what they’re capable of and bounce back from poorer performances last time and go on to show they belong at the top level.

One of those is Joulany who’s yet to even win in his four starts but has promising form behind four great horses in those races, including Derby 2nd Maltese Cross.

There are plentiful horses between 8’s and 20’s but Cannes at a shorter price also looks the part, having won well at Leopardstown last time out and is guided by in-form jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle and trained by Joseph O’Brien who’s been having an incredible week at Ascot so far.

Earth Shot

Earth Shot has great form in many respects; she placed just a head away from Inis Mor at Goodwood, a horse that went on to place third in the Group 1 Prix de Diane at Chantilly four days ago.

Wathnan Racing purchased her on 12th June, clearly eyeing this as a quick return on investment.

Legacy Link will be tough to beat but Earth Shot is yet to be seen over 1m4f to see what she’s really capable of.

Trawlerman

This veteran has won this race and run at Ascot plenty of times.

He won the Gold Cup last year by a staggering seven lengths and has beaten Sweet William twice again since.

Scandinavia is a great horse at four-years-old but will step up to this distance for the first time.

Whereas this John & Thady Gosden-trained horse has the course and distance form and with William Buick on board again surely has this at a great price.
