Thunder’s Ajay Mitchell gives injury update after scare at end of Game 2

The Oklahoma City Thunder were able to tie the series after a Game 2 win against the San Antonio Spurs, but they did come out with a few injuries. One of them was Jalen Williams, who seemed to reaggravate his hamstring, and he was ruled out for the second half of the game.

Late in the fourth quarter, with the Thunder trying to close out the game, Ajay Mitchell went down and grabbed his thigh in pain. He sat on the court for a few seconds and then walked over to the bench. After the game, Mitchell gave an update on his thigh, and it seems like the outcome was good.

“Talked to Ajay after the game and he said he just got hit in the thigh here but said he was good,” Joel Lorenzi of The Athletic wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Mitchell has been huge for the Thunder in the playoffs, especially with Williams being sidelined. It’s uncertain if Williams will miss more time now, but if so, Mitchell will have to step up once again. During their series against the Lakers, Mitchell shared how he was able to prepare to fill in for Williams.

“Playing with a lot of confidence, especially at this stage in the playoffs. Not being afraid and giving it my all,” Mitchell said. “Obviously, offensively, but I think, defensively, too. Taking pride in that has been my goal the whole year, and I think that’s the most important for our team.”

It has been a slow start to this series for Mitchell, but as the games go on, the hope is that he can catch fire as he did in the second round.

It also helps that his teammates are playing well, and in Game 2, four players finished in double-digit scoring off the bench.
