Thunder Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s ’10 out of 10′ Chet Holmgren mic drop proves he’s MVP teammate
OKLAHOMA CITY — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder are one win away from clinching the NBA Finals after their All-Star forward, Chet Holmgren, turned in his best performance of their best-of-7 series against All-Star Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. Holmgren’s offensive struggles in the Western Conference Finals were well-documented heading into a pivotal Game 5. Then, Chet responded with a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds), while limiting Wembanyama to 4-for-15 shooting.
Wembanyama struggled offensively, finishing with 20 points, mostly from the free-throw line, where he netted a perfect 12-for-12. He finished 4-for-15 from the floor, with six rebounds, and three block, as the Thunder cruised to a 127-114 victory. After the game, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who led the Thunder with 32 points and nine assists, reflected on how Holmgren found his way against the Spurs, when the Oklahoma City needed him most.
“As a player, you’re going to go through ups and downs. I don’t ever worry about Chet. Just cause I know how much he loves the game. How much he cares — how much he works,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “He’ll figure it out no matter what it looks like. I’ll bet on Chet 10 times out of 10, and he proved why I would bet on him tonight.”

Chet Holmgren reflects on his struggles versus Spurs after Game 5

Thunder All-Star Chet Holmgren delivered a funny walk-off interview after beating the Spurs. Holmgren blamed it on being so zoned into his bounce-back performance that has the Spurs on the brink of elimination.
“I definitely feel like there were times that I wasn’t able to take advantage over this series. Tonight I was,” Holmgren said. “I got to try and keep that going.”
The Spurs will host the Thunder for Game 6.
