The QB Browns must target in 2027 NFL Draft after Myles Garrett trade

The Cleveland Browns did the unthinkable on Monday, agreeing to trade away superstar Myles Garrett. It is a shocking development as Garrett is one of the best players in Browns franchise history. Unfortunately, Garrett no longer fit the timeline for Cleveland, which made it easy to send him packing. It also helped that Cleveland landed Jared Verse and a mountain of draft picks, too.

So what’s next for the Browns now in the post-Garrett era?

The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue and Zac Jackson reported on Tuesday that Cleveland may be loading up on draft picks ahead of star-studded 2027 quarterback class.

“Meanwhile, league sources believe the Browns are gathering ammunition with an eye on next year’s touted quarterback class, should their current options at the position not take a step forward,” Rodrigue and Jackson wrote. “Moving away from Garrett also signals a more complete shift into their young roster after back to back years of drafting well.”

If the Browns take a step back in 2026, they could end up with a top pick in 2027 either way. But adding additional ammunition could help guarantee them the quarterback of their dreams.

But which quarterback should be Cleveland’s preferred option?

The Browns must target this exciting quarterback prospect during the 2027 NFL Draft after the Garrett trade.

Cleveland needs to land Arch Manning as their next franchise quarterback

Manning is the prize that NFL teams have been coveting for the past few years now.

The Texas quarterback comes from a legendary NFL lineage and looks like a future superstar. Many analysts agreed that Manning would have been the top player taken in the 2026 NFL Draft if he had declared. So it stands to reason that he will be highly coveted in next year’s draft too.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler mocked Manning as the first overall pick in his way-too-early 2027 mock draft. In that scenario, the Cardinals won the Manning sweepstakes and left the Browns with Oregon’s Dante Moore at third overall.

“Had Manning been in the 2026 draft class, the Fernando Mendoza-vs.-Manning debates would have commanded all the pre-draft attention,” Brugler wrote. “If the Texas star continues to build off his improvements from the second half of last season, he will be the clear favorite to be 2027’s top pick.”

Manning played quite well in 2025 for the Longhorns. He logged 3,163 passing yards with 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also showed off his rushing ability with 92 carries for 399 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

The combination of Manning’s traits and lineage make him look like a guaranteed franchise quarterback. That is something Cleveland has desperately been searching for a long time.

Perhaps more importantly, Manning would bring some much-needed star power and belief to the entire organization. Those are intangible qualities that a franchise quarterback can provide that have an impact on an entire city, going beyond the game of football.

Ultimately, it is too early to tell which quarterback the Browns could be willing to stake their future on. But it is hard to argue with the idea of an NFL team installing the next Manning as their franchise leader.
