Texans insider proposes Cardinals draft trade to land polarizing prospect
With the 2026 NFL Draft set to kick off on Thursday night, teams are searching for any avenue to improve their rosters. An AFC South title and divisional playoff run once again ended in disappointment for the Houston Texans. According to Texans insider Jonathan Alexander, it looks as if Houston general manager Nick Caserio wants to address the offensive line and defensive tackle. One proposed trade with the Arizona Cardinals has the Texans trading back to target the need at defensive tackle.
“In that case, the Texans trade back from No. 28 to No. 34 with the Cardinals — who want to come up for a quarterback — and get the best available player on their draft board at the time: Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods,” wrote Alexander the day before the draft. “Woods has met with the Texans. He’s considered a high-character player and one of the top three defensive tackles in this class. He could become an immediate contributor on this defense, which likes to rotate its defensive tackles frequently.”
The Texans have been active in free agency, bringing back veteran Sheldon Rankins and signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round pick Logan Hall to a defensive line in need of reinforcements. If Caserio does trade back or another team, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Houston target Woods. At 21, the ex-Clemson star is one of the youngest prospects in the draft. Playing alongside someone like Rankins, who continues to be a solid starter ahead of his age 33 season, would only help with his development. Come Thursday night, will Caserio and the Texans brass elect to trade back? If so, don’t be surprised to see Woods as their first pick on Friday evening.
