Tennis star claims he was ditched and blocked by coach during French Open in bizarre revelation

Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has claimed his coach blocked him and his wife on social media during the French Open.

Davidovich Fokina was knocked out in the second round at Roland Garros by Thiago Agustin Tirante on Wednesday.

However, his coach Mariano Puerta was absent from the stands for the match.

It came just three days after Puerta had watched on as Davidovich Fokina beat Damir Dzumhur in five sets on Sunday.

The world No.23 has now revealed his former coach quit his role following that first round victory.

Davidovich Fokina explained that Puerta did so via a message on social media before blocking both him and his wife.

The Argentinian then flew to Miami without saying goodbye to the rest of the player’s team.

They had been due to end their working relationship ahead of the grass court season, with Pep Clavet taking over as Davidovich Fokina’s coach.

Davidovich Fokina explanation

Speaking after his loss to Tirante, the 26-year-old revealed: “There was no fight with Puerta.

“After my match against Dzumhur, he told me he was going back to the hotel.

“Two hours later, I received a very long message from him saying he was leaving for good.

“He then took a flight to Miami without informing the rest of the team. We had a very good relationship.

“He has blocked both me and my wife. I considered him a good person until now.

“I don’t wish him any harm, but I hope future players are careful when working with him.”

As a player, Puerta reached the 2005 French Open final before later receiving a two-year doping ban.

He had started working with Davidovich Fokina as his coach earlier this year.

When does Davidovich Fokina play next?

Following their split, Davidovich Fokina will now prepare for Wimbledon with Clavet.

The year’s third Grand Slam begins in just over a month as it starts on June 29.
