Moses Itauma leaves door open for bold new nickname suggested by talkSPORT host

Moses Itauma does not have an official nickname – but talkSPORT’s Andy Goldstein has given him a few potential options.

Itauma faces the biggest test of his career so far on Saturday night as he fights Filip Hrgovic for the vacant IBF heavyweight title.

The British star has the chance to become the second-youngest ever heavyweight champion behind the iconic Mike Tyson.

If he beats Hrgovic and gets his hands on the belt at London’s O2 Arena, it will be an incredible moment for the 21-year-old.

However, there won’t be a nickname attached to his success, as Tyson had with ‘Iron Mike’ and Oleksandr Usyk had with ‘The Cat’ or Tyson Fury has with ‘The Gypsy King’.

That is, unless, he takes one of the names suggested by talkSPORT Drive host Goldstein, who spoke to Itauma on Tuesday.

Itauma’s new nickname

“You might be missing one thing… a nickname,” Goldstein said after listing out all of the outstanding skills Itauma possesses.

Itauma replied: “I don’t want a nickname though, that’s the thing, I think Moses is a powerful name.

“You’re going to say something silly…”

Goldstein remained serious though, explaining: “We gave Richard Riakporhe his nickname, that’s down to talkSPORT.

“So, I’ve got three that I think will work – Moses ‘Invincible’ Itauma, we’ve also got Moses ‘The Monster’ Itauma…

“This is the one I think you’ll go with, ‘The Knockout Prophet’, Moses ‘The Knockout Prophet’ Itauma.”

Itauma didn’t seem massively won over by the suggestions, however, he did leave the door open for using a new nickname.

“I hear it,” Itauma said. “Apart from the last one, you’re making me sound like a cartoon!”

Goldstein tried to push ‘The Knockout Prophet’ one more time, but Itauma shut things down, joking: “Alright, goodbye guys…”

When is Itauma vs Hrgovic?

Itauma faces Hrgovic on Saturday, August 29, with the main event expected to get going from 10:30pm.
