talkSPORT tips – Best football bets and expert advice for Wednesday 22 July
The World Cup is now in the rear-view mirror and the club football cranks up again this week with qualifiers in all three European competitions as well as a restart for Major League Soccer after a two-month break.
There is plenty of action on Wednesday as thoughts begin to turn towards the returning forthcoming campaigns. As always, here’s our bet of the day, bet builder and best value acca.
Bet of the day
New England Revolution to beat Toronto – 20/23
Toronto will have welcomed the World Cup ‘interlull’ after a nine-match winless run in MLS, but that situation may not be rectified against New England Revolution.
The Canadians have kept just two clean sheets all season, while Eastern Conference leaders Nashville are the only one of eight teams to get anything from their trip to New England this season.
Three of the seven home goals the Revolution have conceded came in that match and they should be able to come out on top against their uncertain visitors.
Bet builder
Inter Miami vs Chicago Fire – Hugo Cuypers to score, over 2.5 goals and over 10.5 corners – 5/1
One of the most eye-catching fixtures of the return of MLS is Inter Miami’s game against Chicago Fire.
With Miami set to be without star turn Lionel Messi, the Fire will fancy their chances and there are Bet Builder opportunities to be had, especially by including Hugo Cuypers in goalscoring calculations.
The Belgian has scored 13 MLS goals this season and can add to his tally in a game where plenty of goals are anticipated.
Six of Chicago’s last seven games have featured at least three and there have been a total of 33 in Inter’s last five matches, so over 2.5 goals looks a solid addition.
There could also be more than 10 corners as Miami have earned an average of eight per home game this season and Chicago can also contribute.
Acca
Aberdeen, Braga, Charlotte and Vancouver all to win – 22/5
Four matches make up an acca selection, starting with Aberdeen beating Queen Of The South in the evening’s only Scottish League Cup action.
The Dons have started well in the competition, already beating Brora Rangers and Queen’s Park, so the Scottish Premiership side’s superior skill should come to the fore once again.
Serbian side Pancevo are in European action for the first time but they face a daunting task in the Conference League against Braga, who reached the semi-finals of the competition last season.
That experience should stand them in good stead and the Portuguese team are expected to leave having earned a first-leg advantage.
Atlanta United took just one point from their final four matches before the MLS break, so Charlotte have a good chance to build upon the victories they posted over Toronto and New England Revolution in the run-up to the interval.
Both Vancouver and FC Cincinnati have lost just one of their last nine league games, but it could pay to side with the Canadians, as their opponents have conceded at least twice in 10 of their last 12 games, making them vulnerable.
