The football action comes thick and fast on Saturday with matches taking place across several of Europe’s top leagues, and we have picked out our best bets across the day.

Bet of the Day 

Norwich to beat Sheffield United @ 31/20 

The best bet of the day comes in the Championship clash between Norwich and Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The Blades registered their first win of the Championship season when beating Bolton on Tuesday, but they required a 93rd-minute winner to snatch the points and head coach Chris Wilder still has plenty of work to do.

United have been held to draws in their three league games prior to that win, against Birmingham, Swansea and Cardiff, with the stalemate against the Blues particularly damning as the Blades had an expected goals of just 0.29.

Norwich arrive in the Steel City on the back of a 1-0 loss at Stoke, a result that ended their two-game winning streak in all competitions, but their counter-attacking style should work in their favour against United.

The Canaries were brilliant in a 4-1 win over Burnley last weekend and they look to have enough attacking quality to claim the spoils on Saturday.

Bournemouth to beat Newcastle, both teams to score & over 2.5 goals @ 19/5

Newcastle have picked up a 2-2 draw with Liverpool and beaten Tottenham 2-0 in their opening two Premier League fixtures, but the performances have not been at the level of those good results.

The Magpies lost the shot count 27-13 in their St James’ Park draw with Liverpool and the expected goal numbers finished 2.98 to 1.58 in favour of the Reds.

Spurs outfired Newcastle 17-11 and put up the stronger xG figures when losing 2-0 to Matthias Jaissle’s men, which suggests Newcastle have been riding their luck. 

Bournemouth gave Manchester City a tough time when losing 2-1 to the Citizens at the Etihad in their opening contest of the season, while the Cherries should have beaten Everton at the Vitality last weekend.

The south-coast side registered 17 shots and 10 corners against the Toffees and they continue to play on the front foot.

Bournemouth have also had the measure of Newcastle in recent years, as they are unbeaten in the last eight league meetings against the Magpies.

This clash has produced goals over the years as well, with four of the last six head-to-heads going over the 2.5-goal mark and both teams to score landing in five of those.

Longshot of the Day

Crystal Palace to beat Fulham, Brighton to beat Leeds and Hull to beat Aston Villa @ 21/1

Fulham were disappointing when losing 1-0 at Sunderland last weekend and that result has made it two league defeats in a row, after their 3-2 home defeat to Chelsea.

Crystal Palace are also without a point in two games, losing to Everton and Manchester City, but the Eagles have not lost at Craven Cottage since 2005 and they could be worth backing to claim the spoils.

Brighton have scored seven goals in their opening two Premier League matches, beating Aston Villa 4-0 before losing a thrilling clash at Chelsea 4-3.

The Seagulls could have beaten the Blues given the amount of chances they created and they can get back on track immediately with a win at home to Leeds, who have never won at the Amex Stadium.

Aston Villa have seen the spine of their team leave this summer with Emiliano Martinez, Ezri Konsa, Youri Tielemans, Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins departing for pastures new.

The Villans have lost their opening two matches, going down 4-0 to Brighton and 1-0 against Arsenal, and they could be in for further disappointment at Hull.

The Tigers have won their first two games, beating Manchester United and Coventry without conceding, and they can claim another precious three points.
