Suns’ Devin Booker reveals secret behind flipping the switch for NBA Play-In Tournament

PHOENIX– The Phoenix Suns have officially clinched the No. 7 seed with their 112-107 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. It wasn’t a pretty victory, but one where Devin Booker posted 37 points and looked to be in peak playoff form.

With six days until that game, there will be plenty of time to prepare. However, the preparation began in March, when Booker dropped some wisdom to Suns guard Jalen Green.

When asked about that conversation after the March 12, he elaborated more about how he and his teammates have mentally geared themselves to April basketball.

“These last games, the level is raised almost to a playoff-type feel,” Booker explained postgame. “Houston was a great example, and you see it a lot in playoff games where the quicker you can get out of those funks, it’s a game of runs.”

Although Tuesday’s game was a tough defeat to stomach, Phoenix snapped out of its offensive funk. They shot 46% from the field, 40% from deep, and only committed 10 turnovers.

This was against an injury-riddled Mavericks team, but a win is a win.

While Booker mentioned where the Suns seeding chase was weeks prior, that sentiment felt like a guarantee. Fast forward and Phoenix now is in that No. 7 seed.

The injury bug bit hard during Wednesday’s game, as Jalen Green and Jordan Goodwin both exited due to respective knee and ankle injuries. Regardless, that won’t change the concentration and preparation.

Not to mention, locking down that spot means more time for rest. Questions about chemistry might arise but at this stage, health is wealth.

Booker has been the only player to reach the NBA Finals outside of Grayson Allen. Because of this, everyone will do as they’ve done all season and rally behind their best player going into the team’s first-ever NBA Play-in game.
