Stockport vs Stevenage prediction

Stockport weren’t the favourites to win on Saturday but they somehow came away with the win thanks to a bizarre goal in the last minute.

Ben Osborn netted the winner in the 94th minute and are now favourites to win in 90 minutes in the second leg to really seal the route to Wembley for a bid to get into the Championship.

Stockport did dominate possession in the first leg and showed a bit more control but the shots and chances created didn’t exactly sway the match, until that fateful shot in the dying seconds.

Stockport vs Stevenage betting tips

Goals continue to favour Stockport

For the first leg, I tipped Stockport to win and to score over 2.5 goals, that didn’t quite happen but they did get the win, while another tip ‘Stockport to win and Oliver Norwood to get 1+ SOT’ was a very strong 4/1 price.

However, they only got two shots on target as the two sides did what most do in these play-offs games and that was – play it safe and try not to let themselves go behind in the score.

As such, both sides didn’t do much in an attacking sense, but it seems like it could still stand more so for this game where Stockport come out again to win and Stevenage continue as said in the previous tips to score.

The Hatters may get the opportunity to break if Stevenage go for an equaliser and as such may leave themselves prone to a Stockport side who’ve scored plenty in recent weeks.

Stockport scored three goals in three of their last five games in the regular season, going goalless against Mansfield and scoring just once and losing to already relegated Port Vale.

When playing Bolton in what looked like a play-off decider they drew 2-2 in a thriller that could be replicated at Wembley if both teams progress.

Players to watch

Kyle Wootton scored 18 goals in 46 appearances in the league and will be hoping to make more of an impact in the second leg.

The consistent starting striker has plenty of goals in him and may not be in raring form but has the ability to strike at any point as seen so far.

Including the way Stockport got a goal from bizarre circumstances in the first leg, when Osborn netted the ball in after his teammate who was through on goal fell leaving the defenders wondering and hesitating at a potential foul that was never called.

This game in February saw as many as seven cards and with everything on the line it wouldn’t be surprising to see a similar kind of outcome with plenty of cards – all seven cards came after the 68th minute.

Only two cards were brandished in the first leg, but it is likely to see a different complexion to the second leg with everything riding on this 90 minutes and potentially extra time.
