Prime Video’s NBA Opening Week doubleheader features Knicks-Celtics, Spurs-Rockets with a twist

The first doubleheader of the 2026-27 NBA season on Prime Video will feature Opening Week matchups between division rivals, with the New York Knicks visiting the Boston Celtics and the San Antonio Spurs facing the Houston Rockets. The two games will be played on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, three days after the season’s Opening Night on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

However, in an interesting twist, the Spurs-Rockets matchup will be played at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Every year, the Spurs play a few home games at the Moody Center. It works out that this time, they will be facing an in-state rival.

The regular season begins on Oct. 20 with three games. First, the Celtics will visit the Detroit Pistons at 3 pm EST. A few hours later, the Knicks will begin their season against the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden at 7 pm. The Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder will close out the night in a rematch of the Western Conference Finals.

This is the second season that Prime Video will broadcast NBA games. Before landing the NBA’s broadcasting rights, Prime Video covered the WNBA. The streaming service and the league signed an 11-year rights agreement. Additionally, Prime Video signed an 11-year extension with the WNBA that began with the 2026 season.

That means that Prime Video holds the rights to 66 regular season games in the United States. Additionally, it broadcasts some of the NBA Cup and Play-In Tournament.

Prime Video has the likes of Ian Eagle, Kevin Harlan, Stan Van Gundy, Jim Jackson, Dwyane Wade, Steve Nash, Candace Parker, and Dell Curry as some of its announcers.

Just a couple of months after the NBA Finals, it’s already time to look ahead. The 2026-27 regular season will be here before you know it. The Knicks will be the center of attention after winning their first championship in 53 years. Meanwhile, LeBron James joined the 76ers in what will likely be the final stop in his career.
