‘Crazy’ Chiefs coach gets animated over Travis Kelce’s mistake before laying into Kansas City stars
Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy made a welcome return to training camp on Monday.
Bieniemy has been away from the practice field recently after his wife, Mia, was shot inside their home in Virgina last month.
With Mia stable and recovering, Bieniemy, who rejoined the Chiefs this offseason, has returned to Missouri Western State to help oversee training camp.
Bieniemy’s intensity and energy was on full display on Monday, with a viral video showing the Chiefs OC getting on Travis Kelce after the superstar tight end dropped a routine pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“Hey, heads up, eyes up!” Bieniemy could be heard saying to his players after Kelce dropped the ball.
It’s hardly a reassuring moment for Kelce, a player who has already had to brush off concerns regarding his physical shape, but drops like that are not exactly uncommon in practice.

Fans unanimously praised Bieniemy for motivating the Chiefs’ best players.
“God I’m so glad he’s back,” one fan said. “Hope he stays for a while. I’m sure he would be a great move up to HC when Andy [Reid] retires!”
“EB’s energy is so good for the team,” another posted.
“So good to have him back,” wrote a third.
Bieniemy was also hot on the rest of the offense, especially after the huddle took too long: “Get the f*** out of the huddle,” he yelled.
“This is exactly what we have been missing, EB is back to get these boys straight,” one fan said.
“Coach EB, he’s crazy,” Chiefs guard Kingsley Suamataia said afterwards.
“He’s a great guy, very vocal. He pushes us to our limits every day so we can be the best offense out there.”
Bieniemy welcome addition to under-pressure Chiefs offense
The pressure of a much-needed bounce back season is clearly affecting some of the Chiefs roster.
Prize offseason addition Kenneth Walker III has gotten into it twice with his new teammates.
Meanwhile, wideout Rashee Rice is dealing with an injury, and there are concerns that their offensive line isn’t strong enough to protect Mahomes.
Protection will be key as the highest paid quarterback in the NFL suffered a torn ACL and LCL in Week 14, undergoing surgery in January.
Head coach Andy Reid announced that Mahomes is unlikely to play in any pre-season games, and his availability for Week 1 against the Denver Broncos remains up in the air.
Bieniemy’s trademark intensity may be the exact catalyst Kansas City needs.
The Chiefs fell apart down the stretch last season, and the return of their fiery offensive coordinator brings an immediate accountability that was sorely missed.
If Kansas City intends to reclaim its throne atop the AFC, Bieniemy setting the standard on the practice field is the best first step.
