Stars’ Glen Gulutzan makes tough admission about Wild series collapse
The Dallas Stars are out of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Dallas needed a win on Thursday to keep its season alive. However, Quinn Hughes scored twice for the Minnesota Wild to end Dallas’s season in six games. Head coach Glen Gulutzan and his team are headed toward a longer offseason than they anticipated.
Gulutzan is in his second stint as head coach of the Stars. And he has been an assistant coach for a long time in the NHL. He’s seen it all, but he didn’t need to rely on that experience when assessing this series loss to the Wild on Thursday night.
“I think if you look at the series, they played better than us in four of the six games. And that’s what it comes down to,” the Stars head coach said in a video shared by Victory+ on social media.
Dallas entered this series with the experience advantage, as well as home ice advantage. The Stars finished six points above the Wild in the Central Division, allowng them to have the crowd behind them for most games.
Unfortunately, Gulutzan’s team struggled to score at 5v5. Mavrik Bourque’s goal on Thursday was the team’s first 5v5 goal in 254 minutes, in fact. At 5v5, they had only a 3% shooting percentage.
The Wild are advancing to take on Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche. For the Stars, their streak of three straight West Finals appearances is over. And they head to an offseason that could result in some significant roster shakeups.
