Browns’ Shedeur Sanders already forming home run connection with KC Concepcion

The Cleveland Browns hit the field for the first day of their 2026 training camp on Wednesday, and the quarterback competition between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders is officially underway. However, it was Sanders who stole the show early on, thanks to a beautiful connection with his new rookie weapon.

Working primarily with the first-team offense, Sanders delivered a crisp performance, highlighted by a massive deep-ball touchdown to rookie wide receiver KC Concepcion.

During 7-on-7 drills, Sanders uncorked a gorgeous pass down the sideline, finding the Browns’ first-round pick in stride for a highlight-reel score. The connection thrilled fans in attendance and offered a glimpse into a potentially lethal passing attack for head coach Todd Monken’s offense. According to reports from ESPN Cleveland, the second-year signal-caller looked incredibly sharp, finishing 16 of 19 passing without a single interception during his first day of action.

Cleveland drafted Concepcion in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft to add explosive playmaking ability to a receiving corps that already features Jerry Jeudy. Sanders clearly made it a priority to build early chemistry with the rookie, as the two connected multiple times throughout the afternoon. Sanders also hit rookie wideout Denzel Boston on a crisp short throw during 11-on-11 work.

Before practice, Monken had already revealed how he would be managing the quarterback room and confirmed that Sanders would get his turn to run with the top unit on Thursday.

“Shedeur will take it with 1’s tomorrow,” Monken told reporters. “You want your QBs to work at their mastery to where it’s QB driven, to allow them to make plays. I don’t want our QBs going into a shell.”

Monken confirmed the two quarterbacks will alternate daily. After a rookie season where he went 3-4 as a starter, Sanders is looking to secure the full-time job. If he keeps launching home runs to Concepcion, it’ll be hard to keep him off the field.
