Dwyane Wade sends powerful message after ex-Heat teammate retires at 32

NBA legend Dwyane Wade recently grabbed attention after revealing that Philadelphia 76ers forward LeBron James was not his favorite teammate. Wade named Udonis Haslem, whom he played with for 15 years.

James, for sure, would understand. Wade and Haslem entered the NBA together in 2003 and formed an unshakable bond. While Haslem was his favorite teammate, Wade always got along with everyone on the roster during his long tenure in Miami.

One of them was Josh Richardson, who had two stints with the Heat. Wade took Richardson under his wing when Miami drafted him as the 40th overall pick in 2015.

On Wednesday, the 32-year-old Richardson announced his retirement after an 11-year career, including a stop in Spain.

“I always gave my best. That’s why I can say this with no regret. I am grateful to have been able to love this game and for it to love me back as much as it did. It wasn’t set up for me at any point in my career, and from high school, college, and the pros, I humbly worked my butt off every day,” wrote Richardson on Instagram.

The 44-year-old Wade reacted to Richardson’s post with a touching message.

“The coolest. I loved going into the trenches with you, young fella,” commented the three-time champion.

Miami was the beginning and the ending for Richardson in the NBA. He played for the Heat from 2015 to 2019 and from 2023 to 2025. He also played for the Philadelphia 76ers, the Dallas Mavericks, the Boston Celtics, the San Antonio Spurs, and the New Orleans Pelicans.

He has career averages of 11.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.6 steals, and 1.0 steals. His best season was with the Heat in 2018-2019, putting up 16.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.1 steals. The following year, he was traded to the 76ers as part of the package for Jimmy Butler.

Aside from Wade, Richardson’s other ex-teammates on the Heat also congratulated him, including Bam Adebayo, Hassan Whiteside, Wayne Ellington, and Okaro White.
