Dream’s Angel Reese fires joke amid betting controversy with Paige Bueckers

The Atlanta Dream scored their fourth straight win after escaping the Dallas Wings, 82-81, at College Park Center on Wednesday, courtesy of Allisha Gray’s game-winning bucket. The Dream improved to 17-10, while the Wings fell to 18-10.

Angel Reese also came up huge for Atlanta, finishing with 22 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. She, however, probably cannot celebrate too much. She is in hot water after a video showed her and Paige Bueckers making a bet during the All-Star Weekend on who would win their matchup on Wednesday.

The WNBA posted it on X, but it has been deleted. Reese and Bueckers could be in trouble for violating the league’s collective bargaining agreement (CBA), even though they only had a friendly wager of $400.

After their win against the Dream, Reese alluded to the issue with a joke.

“Yeah, I’ll be requesting my Apple Pay after this,” said the three-time All-Star in the postgame conference, as posted by CHAMPSIDE.

Turning serious, she tipped her hat to Bueckers, while also touting their defense.

“Paige is a great player. I mean, when you hold her to 16 points, it’s tough. She’s just so good. Her midrange is obviously so good. But I think our defense tonight did a good job,” added Reese.

“I’m just glad we got this win as a team. It felt really, really good.”

Bueckers shot 6-of-11 from the field and had four rebounds and six assists.

The WNBA has yet to comment on the controversy, as of writing.

Based on the CBA, as reported by Yahoo! Sports’ Ishaan Bhattacharya, Reese and Bueckers, two of the league’s most popular players, could be meted a stiff sanction, including “dismissal and disqualification” from the WNBA.
