UFC star Conor McGregor theorizes reason behind ACL injury
Former UFC Champion Conor McGregor made his five-year-long MMA return at UFC 329. On Jul. 11, 2026, McGregor faced off against arch-nemesis Max Holloway. However, the fight finished early as McGregor sustained a serious ACL and meniscus injury just seconds into the fight.
Now set to undergo surgery, McGregor’s early jumping roundhouse kick attempt has long been suspected as the major trigger behind his injury. Now, weeks after the incident, McGregor has come up with his own set of theories for the setback.
McGregor, 38, fell inside the octagon in the opening seconds while throwing his iconic kick. He later fell several more times before the referee waved off the bout. Now, as per the Irishman’s theories, he might have slipped and injured himself due to the Octagon mat. “The white orange and green machine,” McGregor wrote on Instagram, while sharing footage of his UFC 329 walkout. “mosying on back to the office, up the office! Sorry I’m late but the dry ice has the cage floor wet it’s a no contest now chop chop for the champ champ I’ll see ya’s next year 100%.” A dry-ice machine has often been used for several of McGregor’s walkouts throughout his career. However, there has been no issue regarding this previously.
