Spurs nearly make NBA history with 15-0 Game 3 run vs. Thunder
The San Antonio Spurs went back home with a strong sense of urgency. After blowing Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals to the Oklahoma City Thunder, they had to set the tone from the jump on Friday.
They did that and then some. The Spurs jumped out to a 15-0 lead to begin Game 3, and in the process, came close to surpassing history. They ended up tying for the second-longest start to an NBA playoff game in the play-by-play era.

Without question, the Spurs are trying their darndest to hold off the Thunder from a shot at repeating as NBA champions. They have proven themselves to be worthy contenders for an NBA title. Victor Wembanyama has been at his absolute best in this postseason. It was his heroics in Game 1 that set the tone for the series, resulting in the Spurs winning in double overtime, 122-115.
In the process, Wembanyama has etched his place in NBA history. During Game 1, he became the youngest player in history at 22 to finish with 40 points and 20 rebounds in an NBA playoff game. In essence, joining legendary players such as Wilt Chamberlain.
At the same time, the Spurs have gotten strong production from their other core players. Among them are De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, and Stephon Castle. Fox has been instrumental in generating scoring production. The rookie Harper has been a key force in perimeter defense and has shown versatility in scoring. Castle has been efficient in terms of scoring, including going 10-for-17 from the field in Game 2.
All in all, the Spurs aren’t giving the defending champions a lick.
