Spurs’ Landry Shamet makes playoff history with 3-point shooting vs. Cavs

The San Antonio Spurs refused to let their season end on Thursday night. They overwhelmed the Oklahoma City Thunder 118-91 in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. Sure, the lopsided victory grabbed headlines. However, an even bigger storyline emerged beneath the surface. Powered by the dynamic trio of Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper, the Spurs have achieved a postseason scoring milestone that has not been seen since Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden led the Oklahoma City Thunder on their memorable 2011 playoff run.

For the Spurs, this latest chapter is being written by a fearless young core that appears years ahead of schedule. Wembanyama, Castle, and Harper have become just the second trio in NBA history aged 22 or younger to each score at least 200 points in a single playoff run. The only other team to accomplish the feat was the 2011 Thunder. Of course, OKC’s young nucleus eventually developed into one of the most talented groups the league has ever seen.

Wembanyama set the tone in Game 6 with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Castle contributed 17 points and nine assists, while Harper added 18 points. Their collective production has consistently eased the burden on veteran guard De’Aaron Fox. This also allowed San Antonio to maintain offensive balance against elite competition.

The Spurs’ postseason journey has been one of the league’s biggest surprises. First, they dispatched the Portland Trail Blazers in five games. San Antonio then eliminated the Minnesota Timberwolves in six before battling the defending Western Conference champion Thunder in a dramatic back-and-forth series. Regardless of what happens in Game 7, the Spurs are already a new powerhouse emerging in the Western Conference.
