Spurs’ Dylan Harper breaks David Robinson’s impressive playoff record
The San Antonio Spurs are back to the drawing board after losing to the New York Knicks, 105-95, in Game 1 of the NBA Finals at Frost Bank Center on Wednesday.
The Spurs grabbed the lead, 95-94, with 2:16 left after a pair of free throws by Victor Wembanyama. The Knicks, however, answered with an 11-0 run to draw first blood in the best-of-seven series.
Wembanyama had 26 points but only shot 6-of-21 from the field, including 2-of-9 from long range. He added 12 rebounds and three blocks.
Dylan Harper added 16 points and eight rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench. According to ESPN Insights, Harper surpassed David Robinson for most points in a single playoffs by a rookie in team history.

Harper, however, did not see plenty of action in the fourth quarter, with coach Mitch Johnson opting to go with De’Aaron Fox, likely banking on the veteran’s experience and ability to perform in the clutch.
Fox, a former Clutch Player of the Year, only scored seven points. He shot 3-of-13 from the field, including 0-of-4 from long distance.
Entering the NBA Finals, Harper was averaging 13.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.1 steals in the playoffs. He has been a key weapon for the Spurs with his speed, athleticism, and poise.
The Knicks won their 12th straight game, with Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, and Josh Hart coming up big in the fourth quarter. New York outscored San Antonio in the said period, 29-19.
Spurs only went 36% from the field, including 11-of-43 from three-point territory. They conceded 19 points off 13 turnovers.
Game 2 is on Friday.
