SportsCenter bumped as ESPN announces brand new NFL show with rising star in TV shakeup

Peter Schrager has landed a coveted 2pm slot on ESPN.

As first reported by The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, The NFL insider’s new show will debut September 10.

Schrager has worked his way through the broadcast ranks

It will run Mondays through Thursdays until the end of the college football season then go out Fridays as well.

Awful Announcing claims that Schrager will announce news on The Pat McAfee Show Wednesday.

Big Day with Peter Schrager and Bussin’ & Pate on Campus show are ESPN’s latest weekdays editions.

Schrager’s show will cover all sports and talents like Steve Smith Sr., Jason McCourty, Adam Schefter, Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo, are expected to make appearances.

SportsCenter — ESPN’s original product dating back to 1979 — has been bumped from the 2pm ET slot.

Thankfully for fans of more toned-down analysis, Shrager is not expected to go the Full Take route with controversial opinions and instead approach the topics of the day in a more conversational manner.

After establishing himself with NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, he has become a key figure during his two years on ESPN.

He debuted The Schrager Hour podcast and took a guest role on Get Up which may have convinced his new bosses that he could front his own show.

SportsCenter will remain at 5pm, where it has been attracting decent figures since Around the Horn’s last show in May 2025.

It was the first show ever to air on ESPN as 24/7 sports news was born thanks to founder Bill Rasmussen.

The broadcasting giant passed away in August, and ESPN historian Mike Soltys sat down with talkSPORT to discuss his revolutionary idea.

“We talked about the college sports, which were big right out of the box, but I think the biggest thing is the very first show was SportsCenter and that was revolutionary as well because all you would get in 1979 is your local news would give you two minutes of sports at 11 o’clock at night that focused on your local team. And that was about it, ” he said.

“And in comes SportsCenter multiple times a day originally at a half an hour clip and move forward 47 years and SportsCenter is still the backbone of ESPN and has thrived.

“It’s the most televised show in television history and continues to be such an important part of the sports fans world. And that all started with Bill.”

ESPN churns roster ahead of historic broadcast

ESPN will host its first Super Bowl to end the season and has invested heavily in assembling a huge cast of stars, although there have been some notable layoffs.

Several former faces have united to launch a rival with Trey Wingo, Merril Hoge, Damien Woody and Mark Schlereth getting the NFL Live crew back together to launch ‘The OG Football Show.’
