South Korea vs Czech Republic predictions and betting tips – Get 5/1 on a 1-1 draw
The 2026 World Cup’s opening day closes with one of the most evenly-matched ties of the entire group stage, as South Korea and the Czech Republic get their World Cup campaigns underway in Group A in Guadalajara.
The bookies can barely split them, South Korea are marginal favourites on the strength of names like Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in, but the Czechs arrive on a 6-game unbeaten run and carry a massive threat at set-pieces.
Played at altitude, with both sides nursing defensive doubts and neither keen to lose their opener, this has the makings of a cagey, low-scoring affair, and I think it ends all square. Below are my predictions and best bets for the game.
- Draw – 21/10 with bet365
- Both teams to score – 10/11 with bet365
- Correct score 1-1 – 5/1 with bet365
- South Korea to win most corners – Evens with bet365
- Patrik Schick to score anytime – 2/1 with Sky Bet

South Korea vs Czech Republic predictions
This is a genuine toss-up, and the markets reflect it. South Korea hold the edge in individual quality. Son Heung-min remains their talisman in what could be his final World Cup, with Lee Kang-in and Hwang Hee-chan offering pace and invention in behind.
They came through Asian qualifying unbeaten, but a rough March window, including heavy friendly defeats, exposed real questions over Hong Myung-bo’s back line.
The Czech Republic are back on the biggest stage for the first time in two decades, having battled through the playoffs via two penalty shootouts.
Coach Miroslav Koubek has leaned on cohesion, with ten of his squad playing for Slavia Prague, and built a clear identity around defensive organisation and set-piece danger. Patrik Schick is the focal point, and captain Ladislav Krejčí a constant aerial threat from dead balls.
Add in the altitude, the opening-night caution and two defences that don’t fully convince, and the picture points one way: a tight, low-scoring game in which both sides do enough to score without either pushing for the win. I’m calling it 1-1.
South Korea vs Czech Republic betting tips
My bets for the game are built around the low scoring draw, with two supporting bets based around the way the game should play out.
A cagey curtain-raiser to finish level
Everything about this fixture screams stalemate. The teams are separated by next to nothing in the betting, both carry enough quality to score but enough fragility to concede, and an altitude opener rarely produces a goal glut.
Both teams finding the net in a draw feels like the natural outcome, and 1-1 is the scoreline that ties it all together.
South Korea to boss the dead-ball count
With the Czechs expected to sit deep and protect their box, often dropping into a 5-4-1 out of possession, South Korea should see the bulk of the ball.
They’ve averaged 9+ corners across their last five competitive games, and I can see them camped in the opposition half against a deep block which should see them win the corner battle.
Bet on South Korea to win the most corners at evens with bet365
Schick to make his set-piece threat tell
If anyone breaches a packed Korean box, it’s Czechia’s main man. Patrik Schick has proven himself at the international level with 25 goals in 52 caps and a serious aerial presence, feeding off the most productive set-piece team in European qualifying.
Against a back line short on certainty, he’s the obvious source of a Czech goal.
Bet on Patrik Schick to score anytime at 2/1 with Sky Bet
