Sky makes another trade by acquiring guard from Mystics

The Chicago Sky turned heads recently after trading Angel Reese away to the Atlanta Dream, acquiring a plethora of draft picks in 2027 and 2028. On Saturday, the front office made another trade, this time for a guard from the Washington Mystics.

Reports indicate that the Sky are trading a 2028 first-round pick for Jacy Sheldon, according to Alexa Philippou of ESPN. Sheldon, who is 25 years old, will be joining Chicago for the 2026 season, which will be her fourth different team since entering the WNBA in 2024.

“TRADE: The Chicago Sky have acquired guard Jacy Sheldon from the Washington Mystics,” reported Philippou. “In exchange, the Mystics receive Chicago’s 2028 first-round pick.”

Sheldon is a former first-round pick, as she was selected No. 5 overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2024 WNBA Draft. This is the third time in her career that she has been traded, as the Wings dealt her to the Connecticut Sun in the 2025 offseason. The Sun then traded the talented guard to the Mystics before the 2025 deadline, where she only played two games.

The former Ohio State star should have a chance to prove herself as one of the key contributors in the backcourt in Chicago. At the very least, she could serve as the main rotational option behind Ariel Atkins and Sevgi Uzun. We won’t fully know her role until the regular season finally begins on Friday, May 8.

Jacy Sheldon has played 70 games in her WNBA career, averaging 23.4 minutes per game. In those contests, Sheldon is averaging 6.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. She is also shooting 42.3% from the field while hitting 35.1% of her three-point attempts.
