Skip Bayless calls for Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert to be benched vs. Victor Wembanyama for Game 6

The Minnesota Timberwolves are currently gearing up for Game 6 of their second round series against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday evening. The Timberwolves currently trail this series 3-2 after dropping Game 5 in blowout fashion on the road earlier this week.

In that game, Spurs star Victor Wembanyama took full advantage of his fortunate non-suspension, dropping 16 points in the first six minutes of the game and dominating Minnesota’s defense throughout the evening. Rudy Gobert took the brunt of the punishment from the former number one overall pick, and recently, sports media personality Skip Bayless gave the Timberwolves his advice regarding Gobert for Game 6.

“Chris Finch has to start Naz Reid on Friday night just to shake it up. Maybe that’s OK for one night, one desperation last stand at home. They just look better with Naz Reid on the floor to me. They look physically tougher, they look mentally tougher. And I think they all look at Rudy like, ‘Come on, man. That’s our guy? They got alien and we’ve got that? Really?'” said Bayless, per Gil’s Arena on X, formerly Twitter.

While Reid certainly wouldn’t have a better chance of stopping Wembanyama than Gobert does, he would give the Timberwolves a degree of offensive versatility and spacing that is not present when the Frenchman is on the court.

The Timberwolves are not panicking despite their current predicament, as they found themselves in the exact same situation against the Denver Nuggets two years ago, and ended up winning that series in seven games.

They’ll look to stave off elimination and send things back to San Antonio for a Game 7 when Game 6 gets underway on Friday evening in Minneapolis.
