Senators’ Tim Stutzle breaks silence on Brady Tkachuk trade
The Ottawa Senators traded captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers this offseason. Tkachuk requested a trade away from the Canadian capital after spending his entire career there to date. Now, he plays with his brother Matthew in Sunrise. Meanwhile, Tim Stutzle and his Ottawa teammates are left to pick up the pieces.
Stutzle is one of the brightest young centers in the NHL. He is going to carry a lot of responsibility now that Tkachuk is no longer on the team. That being said, he is not blaming his former captain. Nor is he looking to dwell on this topic with the new season on the horizon.
“There’s nothing we can do about it. For me, he was always a great teammate and, obviously, a great hockey player and we’re going to miss him. He was always there for me. But at the end of the day, we’ve got to move on. We’re going to miss him as a hockey player, as a person, and as a leader, but it is what it is,” Stutzle said at the European Player Media Tour in Munich, Germany, via NHL.com.
Stutzle has shown the ability to step up for the Senators. The 24-year-old led all Ottawa skaters with 83 points in 2025-26. This is his second career 80+ point season, having scored 90 points back in 2022-23.
The Senators certainly have a lot of work to do in the year ahead. However, it’s clear this team wants to move on from the loss of their captain. Stutzle and his teammates are focusing on themselves and the new chapter of hockey in Ottawa.
