Scott McTominay tipped for new career by Napoli chief as dream spell continues

Scott McTominay might be excelling in the Napoli midfield, but their president believes he could also star on the big screen.

The Scotland international has been a huge success in Naples since he completed a £25.4million move from Manchester United in 2024.

McTominay won the Serie A title and Most Valuable Player award in his debut season, scoring 12 goals and assisting six in the league.

He is on seven goals and three assists during the current campaign as Napoli chase down Inter Milan for another Italian crown.

But for Aurelio De Laurentiis, McTominay could be destined for a new career off the pitch.

The Napoli chief, who is also a film producer, believes the 29-year-old has the capabilities to turn to acting.

“Scott is a real Scotland man, Scottish man,” he told CBS, as quoted by ESPN. “He is like an actor – very elegant, very serious.

“He’s a friend, he’s a good boy and has a certain kind of culture [that] is very good.

“There are some you don’t have an exchange [with]. With him, you can have an exchange. He is fantastic.

“I met a lot of [players] during these 22 years [at Napoli]. You can imagine how many people I found and Scott has a big personality.

“He can be an actor.”

But when asked if he’d cast McTominay in a film, De Laurentiis said: “Leave him to play for Napoli. It’s better. We need him.”

Top of his game

Napoli are seven points behind Inter with seven more games to play, so the title may soon be out of sight.

However, McTominay has already lifted silverware this season as they were Supercoppa Italiana winners in December.

Once the domestic campaign has concluded in May, McTominay will have little time to rest.

Scotland will play in their first World Cup since 1998 this summer after a memorable run of qualifiers.

McTominay delivered a moment of magic in their final match against Denmark by scoring a bicycle kick in the 4-2 victory at Hampden Park.

Their World Cup return won’t be straightforward though, as Scotland face Brazil, Morocco and Haiti in Group C.
