Russell Martin’s Leicester tenure threatens to turn toxic minutes into first league match at home

Leicester City have continued their worrying start to the season with a dismal first-half showing against Burton Albion.

The Foxes, who were crowned Premier League champions ten years ago, fell behind in their League One clash after just five minutes.

Matthew Dennis was on hand to put Burton ahead at the King Power Stadium from inside the area to leave the hosts stunned.

A defensive mess then led to Kegs Chauke netting the second, before Oliver Skipp was sent off to send Leicester down to ten men.

Leicester fans made their feelings known with boos, and some even chanted ‘You’re not fit to wear the shirt’.

Wes Burns managed to pull one back on the stroke of half-time to salvage some pride in what was otherwise a shocking first-half.

Russell Martin will already be under pressure as manager, just weeks after taking the job, if he fails to secure victory.

He won his first match in charge with a 1-0 victory over Northampton in the Carabao Cup first round.

However, they had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Notts County in their league opener after a poor defensive showing led to a late equaliser.

Defeat against Burton would only add to the uncertainty over the future of the club.

Leicester owners King Power have recently put them up for sale, and are expected to bank in excess of £200million.
