Brighton eye possible Yankuba Minteh replacement already wanted by Premier League rivals

Brighton are keen on signing Spanish winger Yeremay Hernandez, talkSPORT understands.

The Deportivo de A Coruna star has been linked with a move to Hull but the Seagulls are beginning to show interest.

This comes as Brighton seek out a potential replacement for Yankuba Minteh, who is being hotly pursued by Liverpool.

The Reds have had two bids rejected for the Gambia winger, the latest of which was worth £60million.

Liverpool are looking to strengthen out wide before the end of the transfer window, who are still yet to replace Mohamed Salah.

Minteh has emerged as their latest target, with the Merseyside outfit reluctant to meet Paris Saint-Germain‘s £130million asking price for Bradley Barcola – despite the Frenchman wanting a move to Anfield.

Seagulls swoop?

While it is unclear if Liverpool will return with a third bid for Minteh, Brighton appear to be lining up a potential replacement should he end up leaving.

Having turned their attention to Spanish winger Hernandez, the Seagulls could now rival newly-promoted Hull for his signature.

The Deportivo star appeared close to joining the Tigers earlier this week, after pictures emerged on social media of him in Hull.

Hull owner Alcun Ilicali then fed speculation further by revealing the Hernandez was keen to sign, but was weighing up his options.

He told BBC Radio Humberside: “We have to get the club side done and Yeremay also wants to come but it is a very vital, critical decision for himself.

“This deal is a very hard deal but we are somewhere where it looks positive. He is young boy and it would change his life completely so he wanted to see where he would come.

“We will see in three, four days if this deal will be done or not. If it happens it will be a record for sure.”

But with Hernandez yet to put pen to paper on a deal at the MKM Stadium ahead of their Premier League opener against Manchester United, this could allow Brighton to swoop.

The 23-year-old has earned a strong reputation in Spain’s second tier, playing a key role in Deportivo’s promotion to LaLiga last term.

In the 2025/26 campaign, he netted 10 times and provided a further 11 assists in 38 LaLiga2 outings to help the Galician outfit seal a return to the top-flight after an eight-year absence.

A season before this, Hernandez notched an impressive 15 league goals in 39 games, assisting five times.

And while the prospect of top-flight football in Spain remains an option, the Spain Under-21 international could instead decide to try his hand in the Premier League.

Should he head to either Brighton or Hull though, it is unclear when Hernandez would be fit to play.

The wideman missed Deportivo’s LaLiga opener against Elche last week due a groin injury which has seen him miss all of their pre-season fixtures.

Should Brighton find themselves needing to replace Minteh, it would mark their latest high-profile exit.

The Seagulls have already lost Jan Paul van Hecke to Tottenham and Danny Welbeck to Chelsea earlier in the window.

Meanwhile, they have agreed a £70m deal to sell midfielder Carlos Baleba to Manchester United.
