Rory McIlroy swears at heckling fan before having them kicked out of PGA Championship

Rory McIlroy watched his PGA Championship campaign end in a greenside bunker and took out his frustration on a heckler.

The Northern Irishman left himself with a nightmare shot from the rough on 16 and ended up fluffing it into the sand.

One of the Aronimink fans clearly said something that would upset McIlroy, who turned round with a face of thunder.

“Shut the f*** up,” he fumed before pointing out the guilty party with his club.

The perpetrator will presumably have been booted from the course and missed Englishman Aaron Rai securing a historic victory.

McIlroy was already three shots off the lead and needed to attack the par-five in order to close the gap.

His approach wasn’t good enough and his short game let him down at the key moment, although the Masters champion managed to tidy up for par.

McIlroy has endured a tricky time with fans Stateside, although the scenes in Philadelphia were nothing like the torrent of abuse he received at the Ryder Cup.

He had one ejected for using a homophobic slur, another two over a bizarre rubber duck incident and his wife Erica Stoll was hit by a drink.

On Thursday’s opening round, the passionate golfer was forced to have words with some spectators who had erected a makeshift stand behind the 14th tee and 13th green.

Having come up short of the green with his second shot, McIlroy chipped to within kick-in distance of the hole.

He apparently heard some noise during his swing, however, and turned back to speak to the fans.

“Just do it after we hit,” he said before walking away.

Rory McIlroy’s watch dazzles Brooks Koepka

The World No.2 hit out at the pin placements early in the tournament but roared back to life on Saturday.

McIlroy was in high spirits after and gleefully showed off his $250,000 watch to playing partner Brooks Koepka.

The good times didn’t last, but McIlroy still carded a 69 to finish on four-under for the tournament — good enough for tied-fifth.

His wait for a seventh Major to equal Harry Vardon’s European record goes on with the U.S. Open up in June.

McIlroy has won the Masters and PGA Championship twice apiece and completed a career Grand Slam with victory at Augusta in 2025.

McIlroy has taken a hardline stance on fan behaviour

He is now looking to join Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only men to win all four showpieces twice and can complete the set as soon as this year.
