Wonderkid Louis Page left out of Leicester squad amid Premier League links

Leicester City starlet Louis Page was left out of the squad to face Notts County amid speculation over his future.

The 18-year-old, who was named EFL Apprentice of the Year last season, is the subject of strong interest from Manchester United.

The England Under-20 international has made just 21 senior appearances for the Foxes and is considered one of the most promising talents outside the Premier League.

Manchester United are currently in talks with the League One club for the midfielder with Arsenal and Aston Villa both interested.

Ahead of the Foxes season opener at Notts County, Page was omitted from the matchday squad by manager Russell Martin despite featuring in last weekend’s Carabao Cup win over Northampton.

It could be a clear sign that Page is set to leave the King Power Stadium in the coming days.

And that would see him become the latest young prodigy to leave the club this summer following Jeremy Monga’s move to Manchester City.

As Page signed a professional contract with Leicester 11 months ago, Manchester United would need to agree a transfer fee to secure the midfielder.

Two more out of the door?

Elsewhere, Martin also left Wout Faes and Stephy Mavididi out of the squad for the trip to Meadow Lane.

Belgian defender Faes, who spent much of last season on loan at Monaco, missed last week’s Carabao Cup win due to personal reasons but returned to training earlier this week.

Mavididi started the 1-0 win over the Cobblers but was replaced by new signing Wes Burns for the League One clash.

Asked about his decision to leave out the duo, Russell admitted that both players would ‘probably’ not be at the club beyond the transfer window.

“Yeah, the same with Wout Faes, really. They have both been brilliant but there has been a lot of interest from elsewhere.

“So we have to be prepared for life without them, unfortunately for us, but they’ve both been amazing professionally, really respectful.

“So it was a tough call, really, to try and get them involved in one or two games, but then you’re leaving players out that are going to be here [for the remainder of the season]. 

“So the call was to go with a squad that’s going to be here for sure.”

“And listen, things change in football. So if they are still here in two weeks’ time, they’ll both be valued and be a part of what we’re doing. 

“But look, right now, it looks like the interest we have for both, which is a lot and high, means they probably won’t be here.
