Robert Griffin III fed up with Caitlin Clark hate
Household names are almost always polarizing figures. Adulation tends to outweigh the criticism, barring legal issues, but there is sure to be some negativity. Despite helping the WNBA grow bigger than it ever has before, Caitlin Clark elicits fierce debates among the fandom. Amid ongoing turnover problems and ice-cold 3-point shooting, the chatter is getting louder.
She is subjected to endless comparisons, with some people writing her off. Clark still has legions of supporters, however, including retired NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III.
“The Indiana Fever are 2 games into the WNBA season and the haters are already trying to say Caitlin Clark was all hype,” the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner and 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year posted on X. “Game 1- 20 pts, 7 assists, 5 Rebs. Game 2- 24 pts, 9 assists, 4 Rebs. She isn’t shooting the 3 ball well and she is still BALLIN. STOP THE HATE.”
Griffin knows what it is like to fall out of the limelight after suffering an injury, so he could presumably empathize with the adversity that Clark is currently facing. Following a year in which she missed 31 games, the 2024 All-WNBA First-Team selection may need some time to shake off the rust and address her long-range shooting woes.
Though, because Clark has been praised for her prowess from distance and her playmaking ability, people will be quick to highlight the 32.4 3-point field goal percentage and 5.5 turnovers she is averaging during her young WNBA career. But the 24-year-old Fever star is also averaging 22.0 points on 45.7 percent shooting from the floor to go along with 8.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds through the first two games of the 2026 campaign.
While there are definitely adjustments that need to be made, Caitlin Clark can still blossom into a generational player. Griffin said it perfectly: Even when she is scuffling from downtown, No. 22 is finding ways to ignite Indiana’s offense. She cannot concern herself with the haters right now, but a big showing against the Washington Mystics this Friday night should quiet much of the noise.
