RJ Barrett expresses desire to make huge move after Cavs series loss

The Toronto Raptors put up a fight in their opening round series of the NBA playoffs against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but the Cavs ultimately emerged victorious after their Game 7 win. Throughout the playoff series, RJ Barrett was a bright spot for the Raptors. And if it was up to the Canada native, he’ll continue to be a bright spot for the team.

During the Raptors’ exit interviews following their playoff series loss to the Cavs, RJ Barrett affirmed his desire to play the rest of his career in his home country.

“I’m from here, who doesn’t want to play at home. Of course I’m trying to stay here,” Barrett said. “I understand the business, but I want to stay here. I have no problem saying that. I want to be here. I want to be here for the rest of my career, I don’t ever want to leave. I don’t have any problems openly saying that. That’s out of my control. I’ve done my part on the court this year and I’ll continue to do my part, and let’s hope things work out that way.”

Barrett is entering the offseason heading into the final year of his current contract. He will be eligible to sign an extension with the Raptors, but if both sides aren’t able to come to an agreement, he will hit unrestricted free agency after the 2026-27 season.

During the Raptors’ playoff run, Barrett averaged 24.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.3 steals with splits of 47.7 percent shooting from the field, 38.6 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 63.4 percent shooting from the free-throw line. He also hit the incredible game-winner to force Game 7.
