Ricky Hatton’s son Campbell admits father’s death ‘saved his life’ in emotional interview

Ricky Hatton’s son Campbell has bravely admitted that his father’s death is the reason he is still alive today.

The 25-year-old candidly confessed that he was “weeks” away from taking his own life when he received the tragic news that his dad had passed away.

British boxing legend ‘Hitman’ Hatton was found dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, in the early hours of Sunday, September 14, 2025.

An inquest at South Manchester Coroner’s Court later confirmed Hatton’s cause of death as hanging.

Hatton struggled with his mental health towards the back end of his boxing career.

And sadly, Campbell has faced his own battles in recent years.

Before his father’s death, Campbell revealed his life was spiralling out of control after struggling to come to terms with the end of his own professional boxing career, and the loss of four close friends in the space of a few months.

Campbell turned to drink and drugs and was later admitted into rehab.

He confesses that he tried to take his own life a “couple of times” during his lowest point, and says he was living “without any consequences”.

“There was no thought to the future, and it’s a bit of [a] miracle that I am still here,” Campbell told ITV.

“I’ve spent time in rehab, and I was just off the rails.

“There was a six-month period where I lost four people who were really close to me.

“Even before, I’d struggled to come to terms with retiring from boxing…

“When the police were breaking the news [of Ricky’s death], a lot of my family thought it [was] going to be about me – and it probably were [sic] not far wrong. It was probably weeks off.”

The devastating loss of his father became a turning point for Campbell, who admitted: “It did sort of save me because I had to sort myself out”.

Campbell Hatton’s boxing comeback

Campbell is now planning a return to the ring after signing with Misfits Boxing earlier this month.

He initially hung up his gloves last year with a 14-2 professional boxing record off the back of two consecutive defeats to James Flint.

However, Campbell is now expected to face Prince Naseem Hamed‘s son, Sami, in his Misfits debut later this year.
