Reds’ Elly De La Cruz gets positive injury update before crucial MRI
The Cincinnati Reds are at the bottom of the NL Central, but one run and they could climb up in no time. First, they want to get their key player back on the field, as Elly De La Cruz has been on the injured list for the first time in his career. The good news is that it looks like he recovers pretty quickly, and the latest update should give fans some optimism.
“Elly De La Cruz is starting to jog. He’s getting work in, and the next big step will be his MRI on Friday,” Charlie Goldsmith of FOX19 wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
De La Cruz was placed on the IL on June 1 after he suffered a hamstring injury against the Atlanta Braves the day before. It was estimated that De La Cruz would be out for around two weeks, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he came back at an earlier time.
With De La Cruz out, Edwin Arroyo has had to step in, and he’s 2-for-10 at the plate in his first four major league games. Manager Terry Francona shared some encouraging words for Arroyo before his debut.
“He told me to be me,” Arroyo said.
Arroyo was the 48th overall selection of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners and was traded to the Reds organization in 2022.
Hopefully, the Reds can get the most out of him while De La Cruz is sidelined, but by the way it’s looking, he may not have to fill in for too much longer.
