Dodgers latest roster moves include Bobby Miller being activated

The Dodgers made their long-awaited move on Saturday, activating right-hander Bobby Miller from the 60-day injured list ahead of their game against the Nationals. To clear a corresponding spot on the active roster, right-hander Kyle Hurt was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, and outfielder Alek Thomas was designated for assignment to open room on the 40-man roster.

Miller had not appeared in a big league game since May 2025 after being shut down with shoulder soreness that wiped out his entire 2026 season. He began a rehab assignment in August and worked his way back up with seven appearances for Albuquerque, posting a 3.86 ERA, a 7.3 percent walk rate and a 30.9 percent strikeout rate over 14 innings.

Speaking with reporters after his activation, the 27-year-old made clear that health, not mechanics, has been the story of his season.

“It took longer than expected, but I’m just glad to be here,” he told SportsNet LA, adding that the back issues he dealt with bothered him more than the shoulder injury that officially sidelined him. He also said his arm now feels strong enough that he no longer has to think about mechanics once he’s on the mound.

"It took a while this year to get healthy, but I'm glad about the steps that I made to get healthy. The throw feels really good right now, and I feel like don't have to think about anything mechanically."

Once one of the game’s most hyped pitching prospects, Miller has bounced between the rotation and bullpen over parts of three big league seasons, going 13-8 with a 5.44 ERA. His best stretch came in 2024, when he set career highs across the board with an 11-7 record, a 3.76 ERA and 119 strikeouts over 124.1 innings. Shoulder trouble derailed him in the second half of that season, and a rough five-inning cameo in 2025 was followed by the injury that shelved him for all of this year.

Manager Dave Roberts said Miller could be stretched to around 50 pitches and may factor into Sunday’s game, with Justin Wrobleski expected to soak up bulk innings behind him. The Dodgers still have not named a starter for Monday’s series opener against Cincinnati.

Meanwhile, Thomas, who was acquired from Arizona in a May trade, never found his footing in Los Angeles, hitting just .211 with a .513 OPS over seven games. He was optioned to Triple-A only four days before his release, as the Dodgers had already turned to Tommy Edman and Kike Hernandez to cover center field while Andy Pages recovers from a broken hand.
