Red Sox receive injury updates on Roman Anthony, Garrett Crochet

Losers of six out of their last eight, the Boston Red Sox could use some good news. The team is mired in last place of the AL East, 13 games behind the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays. Injuries have ravaged the roster, leading the Red Sox to continue their slide down the standings. Ahead of Boston’s Saturday clash against the Cleveland Guardians, team beat reporter Chris Cotillo passed along injury updates on ace Garrett Crochet and a couple of other key contributors via X, formerly Twitter.

“Not much in the way of injury updates today,” posted Cotillo. “Roman Anthony remains shut down from swinging. Garrett Crochet still on track for his next live BP on Tuesday at Fenway. Patrick Sandoval’s ramp-up continues.”

While Crochet, Anthony, and Sandoval are working their way back, the Red Sox still have a host of players out. Top reliever Garrett Whitlock recently went on the shelf, while shortstop Trevor Story is also out. First base has also taken hits, with Triston Casas and Romy Gonzalez also on the IL. The rising number of ailments has hampered Boston’s ability to try to climb back up the standings.

A 9-1 win on Saturday over the Guardians did give the Red Sox a game back in the division race. It also halted a three-game losing streak. If Boston hopes to not only get back to the top of the AL East but also the postseason as well, they’ll need Crochet, Anthony, and the rest of their injured players back on the field. Getting Crochet back at the top of the rotation should be step one. Can Anthony, Story, Sandoval, and the rest of the injured Sox provide the reinforcements so desperately needed at Fenway Park?
