Rasmus Dahlin’s ‘amazing’ reaction to fan reception before Canadiens series

The Buffalo Sabres will take on the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. One of these teams will play to represent the Eastern Conference in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final. Upon their return to Buffalo, Rasmus Dahlin and his teammates were greeted with an incredible sight before Game 1 against the Habs.

The Sabres returned to the city early in the morning on Saturday. As they got off the plane, they saw hundreds of Sabres fans ready to greet them. They welcomed the team with excitement and celebration, leaving a lasting impression on Dahlin.

“I did not expect it, so that was amazing,” Dahlin said, via NHL.com. “Just shows how unbelievable our fans are. It was 1:30 in the night. I don’t even know how many people. It was unbelievable. It was awesome to see, and so proud of playing in front of these fans.”

Buffalo took care of the Boston Bruins in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It was their first postseason series win since 2007. This is their first playoff appearance since 2011. Fans of the Sabres have witnessed a lot of losing and are fully embracing this team that has taken the league by storm.

The Sabres are taking on a tough team in Montreal, though. The Canadiens defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in what was a classic postseason series. Every game ended with one goal separating the teams. And they traded momentum throughout the clash.

Dahlin and his teammates will have their work cut out for them in the series ahead. But they are here for a reason, and they have a passionate hockey city behind them. Game 1 between the Canadiens and Sabres takes place on Wednesday night.
