How Brock Lesnar-Oba Femi ended up in main event of WWE SummerSlam
Surprisingly, the rubber match between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi was the main event of the first night of WWE SummerSlam 2026, closing out the show after Cody Rhodes and CM Punk’s bout.
Generally speaking, if someone like Punk, Rhodes, or Roman Reigns is on the card, they close out the show. However, Lesnar and Femi’s “Hell in a Cell” match was the main event of Night 1.
There have been conflicting reports from PWInsider (via Ringside News) regarding whose decision it was. Initially, PWInsider reported that it was the “Beast Incarnate” who pushed for the “Hell in a Cell” match to close. It was later clarified that he was not involved in the order of the card.
Ultimately, the decision was likely made by Paul “Triple H” Levesque, the chief content officer of WWE. He has been critical in the development of Femi, and he probably knew how big it would be for him to slay the “Beast” in the main event.
When was Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi’s WWE SummerSlam match going to take place?

It appears that originally, Lesnar and Femi were going to open SummerSlam 2026. Generally, if you can’t close the show, opening it is the next best option.
The two had famously opened the second night of WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas earlier in the year. The fast-paced match set the tone for the rest of the night.
Their “Hell in a Cell” match was a brutal conclusion to their feud, which began at the Royal Rumble in January. It’s unknown if Lesnar is truly done with wrestling, but at the very least, his feud with Femi appears to be over.
He embraced the “Ruler” after the match and crowned him the “future” of the company. This was a ringing endorsement from Femi’s first real rival since his main roster call-up.
