Nottingham Forest explore shock move for Man City star as Lucas Bergvall alternative

Nottingham Forest are interested in Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, talkSPORT understands.

Forest are out to strengthen in the middle of the park following Elliot Anderson’s club-record £116million move to City last month.

And they are considering a move for Reijnders as they look to add bodies in the middle of the park.

The Dutchman only joined the Manchester giants from Italian side AC Milan last year.

Reijnders enjoyed a promising start to life at the Etihad Stadium, scoring once and assisting another in a 4-0 win against Wolves on his Premier League debut.

However, the 28-year-old’s game time dipped in the second half of the season as he made just two league starts between the start of February and the end of the campaign.

Despite the departure of Bernardo Silva and potential exit of Real Madrid target Rodri, City could be open to selling Reijnders as a result of the capture of Anderson and impending arrival of Ayyoub Bouaddi.

Even so, the Netherlands international joined the first-team squad for their pre-season tour of Asia.

Interest in Reijnders comes with Forest exploring other options to Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall.

talkSPORT understands that Bergvall had informed Spurs chiefs of his desire to leave the club this summer in pursuit of regular action.

The Tricky Trees have seen at least one bid worth £38million rebuffed with the north London side keen to retain the 20-year-old Swede’s services.

During the club’s pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia, head coach Roberto De Zerbi admitted that he made mistakes with how he handled Bergvall in the final knockings of the 2025/26 season.

Spurs beat the drop on the final day of the campaign and while the capital outfit are keen to retain the midfielder’s services, the Italian reiterated that he will not stand in the way of players that wish to leave.

“I’m always being very clear with him and with you. I would like that he stays with us,” De Zerbi said when asked about Bergvall’s future.

“I think he’s potentially a top, top, top player. But then I don’t want to convince anyone to stay.

“Tottenham is already, without me, a top club and we are not to convince anyone to stay.

“He can find the space if he stays with us. The competition within the players will be very strong because we are Tottenham and we have to build a strong squad – not just 11 players – especially considering a lot of injuries we suffered in the last two, three seasons.

“Football is going in a clear direction – to compete for the highest places in the table, you have to manage 22, 23, 24 players. I don’t want 24, but 21, 22 of a high level.”

Spurs have strengthened their midfield with the additions of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, the duo replacing the outgoing Joao Palhinha and Yves Bissouma.

And with no European football on offer in north London this season, Bergvall may find playing time hard to come by.
