Tyler Marsh drops NSFW rant on refs after brutal Sky loss

JeThe Chicago Sky had their two-game win streak snapped on Monday following their 106-101 loss to the Phoenix Mercury, a game in which they lead in the fourth quarter with under a minute to go. It was new Mercury guard Kelsey Plum who sunk the Sky with a go-ahead 3-point shot in the final 50 seconds to help seal the win. But after the game, Sky had coach Tyler Marsh was highly critical of the officiating, as per Colin Salao of Front Office Sports.

The focus of Tyler Marsh’s anger with the officiating following the Sky’s loss to the Mercury was the fact that starting center Kamilla Cardoso did not take a single free-throw attempt. This was on the heels of a game in which she went to the line only one time during Sunday’s win against the Las Vegas Aces.

“It was a joke. It’s a f**cking joke. It’s a joke,” Marsh said during his postgame press conference. “How many more games does she need to go without getting a free-throw? It makes no sense. Zero sense.”

Marsh was adamant though that the Sky did not lose the game because of the officiating.

“It didn’t come down to that. We fouled our a**es off today. We could have been more disciplined,” Marsh continued. “But for her to play as hard as she does consistently, she doesn’t give much push-back to the officials. I try to talk as calmly as I can to the officials before it gets out of hand. It’s a joke.”

Against the Mercury, Cardoso tied both Courtney Vandersloot and DiJonai Carrington with a team-high 16 points. She also finished with 13 rebounds, five assists and one blocked shot in 28 minutes of play.
