Rashan Gary makes big announcement on Packers future
With free agency right around the corner, it appears the Green Bay Packers might be in the market for a new edge rusher. On Friday, Rashan Gary shared an announcement that he will no longer be playing for the franchise.
In Gary’s post, the 28-year-old defender seemed thankful for playing for the Packers since 2019. Ultimately, he thanked his family and supporters over the course of his career and looks forward to signing with a new team this offseason.
“When I got the call in 2019, it was one of the greatest moments of my life, and it always will be,” said Gary. “The opportunity to represent Green Bay and Packers Nation across the country and around the world is something I will never forget. Like all chapters in line, this one has come to an end.
“I want to thank everyone who supported me and my family thorughout the years,” continued Gary. “The love, the energy, and the memories mean more than words can explain. On to my next stop – nowhere near done yet. All 6’5″, 275… Can’t wait.”
Reports indicate that the Packers are attempting to trade the seven-year veteran, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. If Green Bay cannot find a trade partner, then the club will seemingly release him, making Gary a free agent. Rashan Gary has been involved in trade rumors since the offseason began. Whether it’s a trade or a release, Gary’s time in Green Bay is over.
“The Packers are still hoping to trade Rashan Gary before officially moving on, but his time in Green Bay is coming to an end. They’ve been trying to find a deal over the last few weeks to no avail.”
Gary has been a solid contributor throughout his career. He ends his time with the Packers recording 271 combined tackles (154 solo), 46.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and eight fumble recoveries.
