The Cavaliers fell in the Conference Semifinals last year, but still boast a talented and stacked roster. Meanwhile, the Raptors are back in the playoffs for the first time since the 2021-2022 season. But only one team can make it to the next round.

What started off as a close game quickly fell apart in the second period as they trailed by 16 at the half. Things only got worse as Cleveland eventually took a 28 point lead and never looked back. Toronto tried to catch up in garbage time, but failed to do so.

Donovan Mitchell was named Player of the Game after posting 35 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists in the win. Furthermore, veteran James Harden pulled his weight, adding another 20 points while also picking up seven assists. Jarrett Allen also played well, earning 16 rebounds alongside his 16 points in the victory for Cleveland.

As for the Hawks, R.J. Barrett and Jakob Poeltl put up respectable numbers, with the latter picking up 10 rebounds to back his 21 points. But besides those two guys and Brandon Ingram, nobody else on the team could surpass nine points. Overall, it was a lackluster day for Toronto’s offense.

With the win, the Cavaliers take the first lead of the series. However, they still need to win three more games in order to advance to the next round. Ideally, they would like to win three in a row and finish the series as soon as possible. Otherwise, injuries may affect the team, just like it did last year. Nevertheless, they just need to focus on winning and building up a solid lead.

Meanwhile, the Raptors lose Game 1, but it’s not the end of the world. Since it’s a best-of-7 series, Toronto still has plenty of opportunities to turn things around. However, they ideally want to win Game 2 to tie the series back up before heading back to Toronto.
