Rangers land Pavel Dorofeyev in blockbuster Golden Knights trade

After what was a miserable season, the New York Rangers have taken the first step toward what they hope will be a return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs next season. At the 2026 NHL Draft, where there have already been multiple trades, the Rangers and GM Chris Drury have now gotten in on the fun.

The Rangers are acquiring forward Pavel Dorofeyev from the Vegas Golden Knights, and in return, are receiving the No. 26 pick in the 2026 Entry Draft, a 2026 third-round pick (No. 92), and a conditional 2028 first-round pick (top-10 protected).

Dorofeyev was taken in the third round (79th overall pick) by the Golden Knights in the 2019 NHL Draft while playing in his native Russia in the KHL for Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Eventually, he’d make the leap to North America and join the American Hockey League affiliate Henderson Silver Knights, skating in 24 games in 2020-21 and scoring nine goals with four assists. The following year with the Silver Knights, he’d score 27 goals with 25 assists.

In 2023-24, he was limited to 47 games played in the NHL with Vegas, but he still tallied 13 goals with 11 assists. The following season, he skated in all 82 regular-season games, scoring 35 goals with 17 assists, and later added a goal and an assist in eight Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The 2025-26 NHL season was a breakout campaign for Dorofeyev, who established a new career-high in goals with 37, assists with 27, and points with 64. He followed that up with an impressive showing in the postseason, scoring 12 goals as Vegas would ultimately fall short in the Stanley Cup Final against the Carolina Hurricanes.

In 231 career NHL games, Dorofeyev has 92 goals with 57 assists.
