Colts’ Alec Pierce avoids setback despite latest ankle injury development

The Indianapolis Colts recently saw wide receiver Alec Pierce suffer an injury. He has been receiving treatment for his ankle as training camp continues to roll on. Ahead of the team’s first preseason game, Pierce received injections in his ankle. Some feared that he suffered some sort of setback, but that does not appear to be the case.

“#Colts WR Alec Pierce did not have a setback, I’m told, though there still isn’t a definitive timetable on his return. Pierce — who in March inked a four-year, $114 million deal to remain in Indy — has yet to practice this offseason,” The Athletic’s James Boyd reported on Monday.

Last season, Piece emerged as an important part of this Colts offense. He recorded 1000 yards receiving for the first time in his career. He was, by far, Indianapolis’s leading receiver. The former second-round pick also caught six touchdown passes for the Colts in 2025.

His production earned him a massive extension, as Boyd noted in his report. Pierce will earn north of $9 million this season before his earnings rise to $35.2 million in 2027 and $32.2 million in 2028 and 2029.

Unfortunately, Piece’s performance was not enough for the Colts to make the playoffs. An injury to quarterback Daniel Jones derailed a once-promising season. Indianapolis went from 8-2 before their bye week to finishing 8-9 for the season.

With Jones back healthy and Pierce signed for the foreseeable future, expectations are high in Indianapolis. Hopefully, Pierce’s ankle injury isn’t too serious, and he can return to the field in time for the 2026 season. Indianapolis begins its 2026 campaign on September 13 against the Baltimore Ravens.
