Wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz has opted out of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. The cricketer won't be seen featuring for Peshawar Zalmi, the franchise that had earlier onboarded him as a direct signing ahead of the upcoming season.

Gurbaz wishes to prioritise working towards his non-government organisation (NGO) that believes in charitable works across Afghanistan, which has made him take the tough call to opt out of the marquee event. Gurbaz will, however, continue to be fully available for Afghanistan for the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which is being played across India and Sri Lanka and will run up until March 8.

"Salam everyone, fans from everywhere ❤️After the World Cup, I won’t be available for the PSL this season due to my schedule. I’ll be focusing more on my foundation work in Afghanistan. Thank you for all the love and support," Gurbaz shared via a post on his official Instagram handle.

What is the Rahmanullah Gurbaz Welfare Foundation?

According to a recent Instagram post by the Rahmanullah Gurbaz Welfare Foundation, the organisation is aimed at providing education, healthcare, and employment to millions of underprivileged people from Afghanistan. The foundation has been founded with the goal of lending a helping hand to vulnerable families, youth, and weaker sections of Afghan society.

Speaking of the PSL 2026, the player auction ahead of the season is set to take place on February 11. However, a few players have already been onboarded by different franchises as direct signings. Steven Smith, one of the most prolific cricketers of the modern era, will be seen playing for Sialkot Stallionz, whereas Moeen Ali will represent Karachi Kings.

Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladeshi pacer who was released by Kolkata Knight Riders from their squad ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League, has joined forces with the Lahore Qalandars for his latest PSL stint. Notably, the latest PSL season will be the first time with two additional teams playing, as the Pakistan Cricket Board has added two more franchises to the elite competition.
