Giannis Antetokounmpo’s ‘loyalty’ tweet from 3,273 days ago resurfaces after trade to Heat

It was good while it lasted. After 13 seasons, the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo parted ways on Monday after the do-it-all forward was traded to the Miami Heat.

Many were curious about the future of Antetokounmpo, who had a controversy-marred campaign with the Bucks this season. He played a career-low 39 games due to various injuries, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists.

The two-time MVP has always expressed gratitude to Milwaukee for embracing him and his family. He, however, wanted to take a different step in his career, as he had possibly grown disenchanted with the Bucks’ direction.

Following his move to the Heat, Antetokounmpo’s tweet from 2017 resurfaced.

“I got loyalty inside my DNA,” wrote Antetokounmpo, quoting Kendrick Lamar’s popular song, “DNA.”

As they say these days: It did not age well.

Some of the comments proved to be ominous.

“Please don’t make me bring up this tweet in a few years,” said @BenMcBreezy.

“LOL, this tweet will be brought back around,” added @HeatLoco.

“I hope I’m cheering for you for the next 15 years in a Bucks uniform!” wished @sconniegene.

“No, you don’t. Come to Boston,” commented @Jaybird335.

“You know if you leave, this tweet will come back to haunt you, right?” posted @unBLEESEable.

Remember: The internet never forgets.

Despite his exit, the 31-year-old Antetokounmpo will forever be loved in Milwaukee. He stuck with the team throughout the years, even though there were greener pastures elsewhere. More importantly, he led the Bucks to the championship in 2021, ending a 50-year title drought.

Milwaukee will always be home for Antetokounmpo. His loyalty, however, is now with the Heat.
