Morocco will be in the round of 32 of this World Cup no matter what happens on Wednesday, but there are still multiple routes into the knockout phase for the Atlas Lions.

With four points to their name, Morocco are second at present. Brazil’s tally is identical, and the five-time world champions have the edge on goal difference: +3 vs +1. 

However, Morocco can still climb above the Selecao to win Group C. A thrashing of Haiti would potentially be enough to send the Atlas Lions to the summit of the standings. If Brazil were to drop points against Scotland, Morocco would top the group with a win of any kind.

It has been a positive start to the tournament for Mohamed Ouahbi’s men. They outplayed Brazil at times on matchday one and were good value for their 1-1 draw.

Morocco then beat Scotland 1-0 on Friday, opening the scoring in the second minute and then seeing the game out.

In a perfect world, Ouahbi would have liked his team to create more chances at 1-0 up. But he will have been delighted with their defensive efforts, with Scotland failing to land a single shot on target all night.

As for Haiti, they were outclassed in a 3-0 defeat by Brazil. Having also lost their opening game to Scotland, the Caribbean nation became the first team to be eliminated from this World Cup. 

Still, Haiti will depart with their heads held high, especially if they turn in another creditable performance here. They drew the second half against Brazil after conceding three goals before the interval, and on another day they could easily have got something from the Scotland game.

Haiti will be keen to pick up their first ever World Cup point, but Morocco are strong favourites.

Morocco are targeting top spot in Group C against a Haiti side that will head home after this match.

Clean sheet incoming

Morocco sacked Walid Regragui as their manager despite reaching the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final because they wanted the team to play a more attacking brand of football.

The early signs in that regard are positive under his successor Ouahbi, but the evidence of this World Cup is that Morocco remain a solid side defensively.

They have given up just one goal so far, and that came via a moment of magic from Vinicius Junior. In none of their last 13 matches have Morocco conceded more than once.

Haiti drew blanks against both Scotland and Brazil, and they will struggle to find a way past the Morocco rearguard as well.

Morocco should dominate

Haiti have by no means disgraced themselves so far, but a lack of quality has ultimately been their undoing.

The fact that Sebastien Migne’s men have started both games poorly has not helped their cause.

Haiti conceded the only goal of the game against Scotland in the 29th minute, while they were 3-0 down at the break against Brazil.

As for Morocco, they struck within seconds of kick-off on matchday two, having made a fast start against Brazil too. With that in mind, the Atlas Lions should be ahead after 45 minutes here.

Saibari in fine form

Ismael Saibari has scored both of Morocco’s goals at this World Cup. He finished coolly after beating Brazil’s high line on matchday one, before smashing a finish past Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn on Friday.

The fact that Bayern Munich are poised to sign Saibari suggests he is not a flash in the pan. The way things are going, he could even be an outside bet for the Golden Boot.

Saibari is Morocco’s dangerman up top and the Haiti backline will struggle to contain him at Atlanta Stadium.

With his sharp movement and lethal finishing, Saibari is good value to find the back of the net on Wednesday.
